Module 7

The reading this week has been interesting. It’s been about the beginning of globalization. Friedman talked about why it’s better from some business to be and run from different countries, how it is going to help to push globalization. He also talked about how the internet made it easier to be a globalization company to self-directed consumers. He also talks about does globalization mean Americanization, meaning is every culture going to have to convert to the American culture. Are we going to lose our countries ancestry.
Some counties are better at doing things then other countries because they have different resources readily available. They are able to gather needed materials closer. Another reason is the demand for work. Some countries might need the work more and are will to accept a lower price for the work so they can get it and get what little money they can. Along with that the amount of education available for the people to take such as India, you know if you are looking for a engineer who will get the job done right and in a timely manner India has the people for you. They have more students studying engineering and are able to charge less than any other competitors. The other key part is government. How well your government is working with other countries and also if they are supporting the work and trying to help and keep it working so that people can have a job and that the goods will be able to be sold to other countries.
Self-directed consumers are the people that shop online and shop to their specific needs. That in turn companies can give people an experience of this product is perfect for you. The consumer is able to put in all the information they are looking for and the company will meet the demand of the consumer more effectively. The consumer is happy and the company just made a sell without having a sells person. Am I a self-directed consumer? I would say I am. But not in the traditional sense, I’ll look it up online and then I’ll go the store and buy it from a person. This way I can do as much research as I want on the product and see who is going to give me the best deal.
Does globalization mean Americanization? Yes, and no. I mean this because it is American companies who are leading it so of course they are going to be the trend setters, they are going to be the leaders, but that is not say once other countries are better established they are going to run things differently and more efficiently. Business and growth are limited to whatever strategy and future plan has worked, but that is not to say that a better one will not arise. Once countries are able to flatten themselves. Friedman says that he believes globalization could be a way for the world’s culture to come closer without all culture disappearing.
From the reading we learned about why some countries are better or better suited to run certain jobs while others are not. We learned that the internet made it possible to better sale what people wanted.  What globalization means for out cultures as far as are we all going to be one culture or are we going to keep our culture identity.

  1. I'm glad you mention that shopping online as a way we are self directed customers. I hadn't even thought of that and as I read your essay it all clicked. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I liked how you explained the matter of Globalization vs Americanization by acknowledging the influence the United States holds but ultimately allowing for the idea of other countries also playing a large influence, perhaps even surpassing the USA in certain areas, It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out with time.
